What is the Myers Briggs?

Do you want to do something for yourself that is truly life-changing?! Then join the millions who have taken the Myers Briggs and discover a wealth of knowledge about yourself. The theories underlying the Myers Briggs originated with Carl Jung, a famous psychologist in the early 20th century, who observed many principles about human personality and its development. Later, the mother-daughter team of Katharine Briggs and Isabel Myers, wanting to make the theories of Jung useful in everyday life, created the Myers Briggs Type Indicator. Since its beginning, the MBTI has been revised and expanded, making it the most widely used assessment of its kind.

So, just how can the Myers Briggs benefit you? The MBTI measures your inborn preferences in four different personality categories. For instance, are you energized by interacting with people and your surroundings, or by your inner world of thoughts, ideas and feelings? Do you prefer dealing with specifics and details, or the big picture? Do you make decisions based more on logic, or personal values and effects on people? And finally, do you prefer lists and a plan, or do you prefer to go with the flow? The answers to these questions as well as other valuable insights gained from the MBTI are instrumental in truly knowing yourself and in understanding others, whether at home or at work. Through understanding how you function best, you are more able to access your strengths and overcome weaknesses. You will be able to see differences between you and others in a new light, helping you communicate more effectively. With greater awareness and wisdom gained through the MBTI, more effective choices can be made about careers, in relationships, and during times of change or conflict, resulting in increased life satisfaction.

Are you a coach? If you are a coach, the MBTI can be an extremely valuable tool in working with your clients. The Myers Briggs gives a coach the distinct advantage of quickly giving you a base of knowledge about your client. Quoting from the International Coaching Federation’s website, “Assessments provide objective information which can enhance the individual’s self-awareness as well as awareness of others and their circumstances, provide a benchmark for creating coaching goals and actionable strategies, and offer a method for evaluating progress”. See how using the Myers Briggs with your clients will make you a more effective coach!
